PopUpShow
Tony DeNardo is a modern day one-man-band show using live-on-the-spot created loops and technology for a unique and eclectic style, which fuse elements of rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, reggae, country, jazz, psychedelia, space rock and gospel. He combines guitar, drums, bass sounds, keyboards, percussion, harmonica, and live vocal sounds to create a full band sound and feel that gets crowds of all sizes up and dancing.
Tony picks from a seemingly endless collection of covers and originals to create an unforgettable live performance in which his ingenuity in looping magically reproduces
the feel and energy of a complete band with no pre-recorded tracks. Having played in touring bands with some legendary musicians including Tom Donlinger (Van Morrison), John Magnie (The Subdudes), and supporting the Grateful Dead tour for four years (voted best act on Shakedown Street!), Tony’s performance is seasoned and confident. Tony has toured extensively all around
the country, and shared company with bandmates of Willie Neslon and Merle Haggard.
He was an Artist in Residence at Tractor Brewing, and performed three shows each month at their various taprooms. Tony also performs weekly shows at Valencia County Senior Centers throughout 2024, in addition to his featured performances.

This used to be my personal website, that I started during the pandemic. Live-music was on the outs, due to our inability to congregate. What used to be an ideal gig, was then called a super-spreader event ;-/
So, I invented a concept called the Socially Distant Pandemic PopUpShow. I would load my gear into my trailer, and setup outside the Sam's Club gas line in ABQ. There were over a hundred folks, in their cars (i.e. socially distanced) either getting gas or waiting to get gas. I would jam out, real loud, "Jumping Jack Flash at the Sam's Club gas!" to the tune of the Rolling Stones and folks seemed to like it.
To argue that a solo musician should not be considered a band simply because they perform alone ignores the very essence of what a band is: a collection of musical roles brought together to create a full, dynamic sound. When a solo artist plays bass, drums, rhythm and lead guitar, and performs multi-part harmony vocals—often recording, arranging, and producing everything themselves—they're not just a band member; they are the band. They're embodying every role that multiple people traditionally fulfill. The distinction between a "band" and a "solo act" becomes arbitrary when one person is capable of delivering the same sonic complexity and musical cohesion as a full ensemble. If the music meets the criteria of what we culturally and musically define as a band, then denying the title on the basis of headcount is a disservice to artistry, not a defense of tradition.
Post-pandemic, my focus shifted to underserved communities and the benefits of music therapy. To learn more about my current endeavors, please visit https://popupshow.net.
